Energy Management in Practice

The Energy Management In Practice (EMIP) project was kicked off in March 2010. The intention of the project is to reduce harmful emissions through improvement of efficiency of ships. The project is a result of cooperation between several leading shipping companies.

An important ambition for the project is to increase knowledge about energy management within the shipping community in Norway. Active distribution of results is one of the tools to achieve this aim.

Grieg Shipping AS has a strong belief in this project for several reasons. One vital reason is the acknowledgement that the probability of success related to improving energy efficiency on ships is substantially increased by cooperation between serious ship owning companies that want to “make a difference”. Another reason is the fact that this project will encompass, in a structured way, integration of all earlier and current efforts done related to improving energy efficiency in the Grieg Fleet. The same is the case for the other companies. The end product of this is expected to yield positive effect both financially and environmentally. The positive effect will hopefully contribute to improving the shipping community’s environmental reputation in society.

The first phase of the EMIP project was concluded in May 2011. It was immediately decided to take it furter, still with Aage Oscar Langeland from Grieg Shipping Group as project manager.
